pimples, warts, what is it??

degaboh Mar 11, 2006 10:39 PM

Hi folks, I've just stumbled onto this forum. I adopted a beagle a few months ago, and he came with these pimple things (see pics). There's one on each side of the groin area. Can anyone tell me what they think these are? He doesn't scratch or lick at them specifically, just the general licking/cleaning he does.

Should we take him to the vet to get it checked out?

Thanks!!

We adopted him from Houston Beagle Rescue, they had gotten him from one of the shelters, had him checked out by the vet and neutered/spayed. If they say he's a male, I'd trust that..besides he's got male genitalia and I don't think females have that :P. I guess you're thinking those things are nipples? The pictures aren't very good ones and I cropped them a little (I don't know if people wanted to see doggie genitalia), but I'm gonna say he's male unless he's a he/she

I'm not sure what they are, so I can't offer a lot of advice, but do you know how old he is? I had a beagle who got growths when he was older. You could also do a Google image search to see if you can find pictures that look similar--or even just ask the vet the next time you're there if the growths don't bother your pup.

Sorry, had to ask. You'd be a bit surprised that there are some people who just don't know. So, Yes, I did think they were nipples.

Sometimes dogs get "skin tags" and they can be of no concern at all. That tends to be older dogs though. Hopefully someone with beagles shows up and has a better explanation.

Those pimples look an awful lot like male nipples Both sexes do have nipples, although males normally have very dotlike or flatter nipples than a bitch pup prior to a first heat. On some males its very difficult to detect, others its much more pronounced.

Laughing, those are NIPPLES....there should be more under the coat all the way up the chest. Males and females have them...just like any other mammal out there, and the males tend to stay small and "pebblelike" while females enlongate esp. when allowed to cycle and/or give birth ;o) So relax

Congrats on your resscue! I am in North Texas.
