This is Roscoe. I bought him from a kid who didn't take good care of him this past Friday. ($40)
He is the most friendly, spunky puppy ever.
He is roughly 6 months.
He will have his first vet appointment very soon.

My question is...
When I first heard of him, I was told he was a fox terrier/chihuahua cross. Then I met him, and knew that the kid was full of it. (He wasn't a very smart kid...anyone who could ignore this adorable creature, and tie him to doorknobs etc...obviously isn't very bright)

I researched both breeds, and they both top off at under 10 lbs. He is approx. 15 lbs.

He looks like a Jack Russel to me.
I can't seem to pinpoint the other part.

It doesn't really matter, but my curiousity is getting to me.
Any opinions?

What a sweet little dog!! I have to agree, Roscoe looks like a Jack Russel, possibly mixed with a Chihuahua though it's hard to find a Chi trait. No matter what... he looks like he will be very happy living with you. I'm sure he thanks you for removing him from the other situation, though I hope that kid doesn't take the $40 and buy another puppy.

It may be possible that he is all Jack Russel, I have seen some that don't bounce off the walls. But the weight isn't that far off from the two breeds hes supposed to be, chances are his parents were larger than normal. Or it could be that he lacks a drawf-ism gene, this happens alot in shelties. My sheltie was 19" at 6 months old, but both his parents are under 16", and one of his sisters is 14". Either way he's still a realy cute dog, and I'm sure he's glad you saved him from a lifetime of doorknobs. And when you take him to the vet make sure you get his eye looked at, it looks like he may have some cherry eye.

His color looks richer than JRT to me. There is a lot of similarities in terriers, and Chihuahua is terrier-like. The JRT and the Fox Terrier are closely related--both bred to go after foxes. My hunch is that your dog may be even nicer than a JRT. Or Parson Russell Terrier, the AKC name for the breed now. Looks like a very pretty little terrier to me, and that is a size of dog that makes for good health. You are going to have a nice time with him. And one other thing--your chances of housetraining a 15-pound male dog are better than the chances of housetraining a smaller one. It's all good.

I say smooth fox/jrt, with maybe a touch of chi., the high forehead isn't really a terrier trait.
