Hi, I love AFT's and am considering purchasing one at my cities next reptile show. I had a tree frog for 8 years, have 2 grass lizards, and one leopard gecko so nnot new to reptiles but am new to African Fat tail geckos. If i do decide to get one, i am planning on keeping it in a 20 gallon long aquarium. I'm not sure about heat or substrate, so if you could direct me to some good care sheets, or dont mind posting some stuff yourself, i'd appreciate it. Do they need humidity chambers like leos? Since they need higher humidity than leos in their whole cage i wasnt sure. Thanx for any help,
MaC

AFT care is pretty easy, a lot like Leos. yes they need a humidity chamber, and actually, they will do fine set up just like a leo. but fat-tails need more room, a 20 is fine, and they are just a little more delicate then leos. you can use paper towels, or the wood chippy stuff, the wood chippy stuff is a bit better, as it will keep up the humidity.

Depending on the age of the AFT ... Adults I use shpegums (sp) pete moss for the humid hide and play sand or paper towels for the rest of the tank. I keep mine in a 20 gal. long tank as well and they just fine in there.
For my hatchlings and babies under 1 year of age I keep them only on paper towels and put a moist paper towel in their humid hide as well. Bounty is soft and holds alot of moisture without ripping too easily.
