My friend bought a chihuaha a while ago while on vacation. During the vacation the chi would follow them everywhere she got along well with everyone they met. She never barked or squealed.

Now, the chihuahua always barks and squeals at everyone she sees whenever they take trips with her. But when she's at home, she's very relaxed and usually doesn't bark at people.

Can someone help us with this problem? Thank you very much

In my experience chihuahuas are a noisy breed. I'm not sure there's too much that can be done to stop the behavior. It can be managed by making sure absolutely no rewards or attention are given at all when the dog barks. Even negative attention telling a dog to "quiet" will reinforce a behavior.

If you want to work very hard on it- and it will take weeks, months or longer even. You can work on figuring out what sets the dog off and try to reward the "quiet" mode right before the dog decides to bark. Doing it after is useless. This method takes great timing and a lot of attention to detail, but it will be the most effective.

Use the method in the article "Attention, Please!" at the link below my name. It's easy, downright fun, and can work in a couple of weeks if you stick with it.
