We want to breed rat terriers.

ken_k Mar 26, 2006 08:32 AM

Hi Y'all, Brenda and I want to breed ratties. We thought posting here might help us get started. We live in the country with a large fenced back yard and love dogs. Recently we lost an 18 mo. old terrier "Twiggy". We have two "mutts" Max and Minnie, cross Cockers.

Finding a new puppy is not easy. They go so fast we think there must be a demand for a new breeder in our area. Greenville, NC is home to ECU and we think rat terriers are the perfect apt./watch dogs.

If anyone out there has advice or info please reply. Thanks in advance, Ken and Brenda.

There is a very large unmet need for small companion dogs. I recommend you find a truly wonderful breeder you would trust with your human kids--ethics and love to the utmost. And then help her carry on her bloodline, working very closely together. The genetics are extremely important, as is just exactly how the pups are handled. Don't try to reinvent the wheel. Join with an expert. These folks are looking for the right people to carry on their bloodlines.

Hi, Thanks for your reply and excellent advice. We think we have found just such a breeder in GA. I'll pass along your words to Brenda.
