lab pup with eye trouble

scottmckillips Mar 26, 2006 09:52 PM

I was working retrieves in some high weeds and I think my 16 week old lab/golden pup got something in her eye. It is red and watery. When she wakes up the eye is matted and I use a warm paper towel to loosen up the matting. Is there something over the counter as a home remedy that I can use until I get to the vet? It just happened late this after noon.

A simple sterile saline solution can be used to rinse out the eye but with the eye being red, watery and getting matted over could be a result of the cornea being scratched by the high weeds. You should call your vet immediately this morning and make an appointment. Such an injury can be very painful to your dog. Good luck and keep us posted.

I did the saline last night and this morning, thanks. She is going to the vet this afternoon. I will let you know how it is. Thanks again.

I'm glad you were able to get right in to your vet. Hope your pup is okay.

Thank you, She is doing great. She does have a scratch on her eye so the vet gave us drops. Her eye looks better already. I am so glad it was nothing more serious. Thanks again

You're very welcome! Your little girl is very cute what is her name. I'm glad you and your vet were able to find the problem. Keep a close watch on her so any eye ulcerations don't develop.
