8 month old hiper beagle is this normal

shay05 Mar 28, 2006 09:36 PM

Hi I am new I have an 8 month old beagl that is hiper acting. She is very sweet and loving she has had alot of health problems along the way she almost died when I first brought her home. The vet thought she had parvo turns out she had cocidia. I kept her on puppy pads in the house and doctored her up she is very vibrant now and loves to play. Sometimes to rough. The only time she will calm is when I put her in her crate she doesn't bark alot she will lay in there very quietly. When she is out she is hiper. I just wondered if someone would have a suggestion. If anyone has a puppy like this she is a joy she just likes to play

It is normal for a dog this age to have very high energy. Take her to a good training class. She will love it.

Exactly! A good training class will redierct the wildness of a teenage dog. Tiring out the brain really helps tire out the whole dog. YOu may want to take a tracking class after the obedience class- your dog will love you for it.

Thank you for the suggetions I really appreciate it. We have been working on basic training. We play fetch and she really enjoys her toys my children and her tire out one another. The only time she is realy wound up is after a night in her crate. We try to get her worn out. I just love the breed. She is learning to stay down and not to use the kids as toys she is such a delight to have.

You have to understand that Beagles can be a high energy breed and if you do not properly exercize them, all the pent up energy will be released at once - an occurrence commonly known as the crazies! She needs a good brisk 30 min walk at least once a day, and should be getting exercize from playtime in the house. If shes not completely housebroken, its better to pen off a room with cleanable floors so she can have more room to stretch and be active. If you leave her in a crate for many hours, of course she is going to run around the yard. BTW, though, I don't condier running in the yard to be hyper behavior at all. A healthy dog does not like to be sedentary.

This is my baby and she is. We like to snuggle on the couch and take naps I couldn't ask for a better breed I just love them. I do laugh at her when she puts her nose down to the ground there she goes again. I just think they are awsome we do love to take walks and play fetch. She is a joy. I just love her
