Does anyone have more than one beagle

shay05 Mar 28, 2006 09:40 PM

We are in the process of thinking about a second beagle. We wondered if it would give our little girl a playmate. She is such a joy I just love the breed we have already had her fixed she doesn't have accidents on my floor she prefers her puppy pads over going outside she is such a baby I just wondered if anyone has more than one.

I have a pack...3 right now, Beagles love other Beagles...or most other dogs. They are very clannish and like to lie in piles, always touching each other, it's very cute! Wish I had a pic of mine doing it...opposite sex is usually best to start....and both being fixed will help cut down on any issues or mistakes happening

I have 2 bitches and 1 dog....both of my girls have litters right now so they aren't TOO keen on sharing space...but outside of pregnancy they love each other.

I'd suggest a reputable breeder, here's a good place to start
http://www.showbeagle.com There's a list of breeders by state. OR you can adopt a rescue Beagle, there are so many needing homes. Check Petfinder or go here to find a group in your area...

Good luck! ONE thing I'd suggets is to make sure you have the training well in hand on your first dog, BEFORE bringing the new one home..or it can be double trouble! ;o)

Hello we are doing good with training she likes to mind most of the time. We already have her fixed and when we do decide to bring in another I think we are going to get a male. My first is tri colored just beautiful what a baby. She is learning to be gentle when taking toys from the kids. She is a joy. I love the boxier look of the males and intend to fix him as well. WE couldn't have a better dog. Her biggest thing is to play fetch.

At the moment I have six Beagles. The more the merrier, but you definitely do need to have abundant patience and a good sense of humor. The best pairing is a male and female (both neutered, of course - the heat cycles will drive you into insanity, even with neutered males. They don't eat, don't sleep, and want to go out constantly). I would never advise a pet owner to take on two females. Even after years of peaceful coexistance, bitches can become, well, bitches.

Thank you I enjoyed your information we are getting a second beagle it will be a male we will have him fixed just like the female is that we have. I thought your picture was cute I just love the breed everytime she puts her nose to the ground I start laughing. I always say there she goes again. I thought she might like a dog buddy to play with. She is such a sweetheart.
