American Eskimo dark diarrhea/urination

Bladestorm Apr 02, 2006 09:21 PM

As a backround, about two months ago my 9 year old American Eskimo was diagnosed as having Canin Disc Disease. I had brought him in because he would yelp when he got up from laying down. It seemed to me that the pain was coming from his side, and not his spine. But after Xrays the vet said it was Disc Disease. I'm not so sure that was right, which leads me to this.

When I woke up this morning he had went diarrhea in the house. It was very dark in color, almost black. He did it again a few hours later. He also has uncontrolled urination as of today. A couple months ago, right after the diagnosis of Disc Disease, I started him on a raw diet of mainly deer meat and select fruits and vegetables. I did some research on uncontrolled urination and it seems that he may have kidney problems or even diabetes? Does that sound right? Is there any treatment you could think of for him?

Thanks

P.S. I forgot to add that when I switched him over to the raw diet that he lost 10lbs. I wonder if that was a result of his new diet or a symptom of whatever is causing the diarrhea/urination?

Oops, my previous post didn't work. I had a dog with a bulging cervical disk and the symptoms fit what you describe. The age is typical, too. Your dog needs to see a veterinarian to find out what is wrong here. Could be infection, diet, or a side effect of medication. Needs veterinary attention to get a diagnosis.

I'm curious, is your dog on any medication? I read many prescriptions have awful side affects, similar to what you're describing.

It sounds like he needs surgery. Did you consult a holistic vet? If so, what did he say?

(Just as an aside, make sure when you feed the deer meat, your dog is getting lots of raw bones too. You probably already know that.)
