Flying with chihuaua

platinumTLC Apr 03, 2006 04:28 PM

Hello,

I will be flying from New jersey to Florida in May, and I had a question about flying with my chihuahua. THe airline (Continental) has regulations on incabin pets and the kennel dimensions, which are set at a MAXIMUM of 22"Lx14"Wx9"H. I cannot for the life of me find anything under 10" high. Can anyone who has experience with flying with their chihuahua reccomend a soft crate 9" high or less?

Thanks

Or maybe this is the first chance someone has had to look at the board? At least, that's my case.

My girl LaVie traveled with me multiple times, always carry on. This was back in '96 and '97. I didn't have a soft crate but a hard crate. I purchased a small plastic crate at the local PetCo or PetSmart for something like $20. It was very much like the Vari-Kennels only flatter and with wire across the top, it had a door that would slide open like a bird cage door. Or you could flip the levers on the front and open it like a clam shell. There was a metal handle on the top, connected to the wire top, to carry it. I just donated the crate to the Goodwill last month or I'd offer to send it to you.

LaVie was an EXCELLENT traveler. I was flying for work, 10 day trips, so it was wonderful to be able to take her with me. She never stressed and was a very happy traveler. Check the airline guidelines as we always had to get a health certificate to fly and there were limits to how many pets could be on a flight.

Good luck!

Try the Sherpa site. I have a Sherpa and it has a list of airlines that accept it's use. Hope this helps.
