Getting choosy on food...

ranga___n Apr 11, 2006 01:59 PM

My lab is 2 years old. Of late, he has become very choosy on his food. I live in India, and we get Pedigree here. I usually get him vegetarian, chicken and meat Pedigrees and he has started avoiding the vegetarian one.

He also is not drinking water and wont listen to me when I ask him to drink. It gets hot here during summer and I'm worried about his behavior of not drinking water.

Otherwise, he is a good obedient, playful dog.

Any tips or advice or experiecne of anyone and how to get him drink water and not become choosy on food?

Thanks
Ranga

It sounds likely this dog is ill.

Well, I had checked him with a vet, and he says he is quiet normal. May be when I read my post, I felt that I myself had worded it as if he is sick.

He is quiet playful. He eats his food (except veg) with no complaints. He does all the thigns that labs do as usual.

It is just that he wont drink his water.

Thanks again.

Maybe he doesn't like the bowl the water is kept in. How often do you wash the bowl out? It could be that. Or maybe your using a scented soap to wash it that he doesn't like. As for veg. dog food just feed the other kind you give.

Thanks again. In fact that is what I have decided, to just feed the other food. But my concern was what if he starts developing it as a habit, and avoids the other food as well

Well, I've to just find it out I guess.

On washing, I do it every single day before I feed him, and the practice hasnt changed much. Neither the water nor the soap I use.

Thanks again for your patient replies. I appreciate your concern and interest very much.
