crazy for cavs

lsien Apr 15, 2006 07:54 AM

We had a ckcs for a little over a year and we had a terrible accident April 9th and I made the decision to put him to sleep,
but I am misssing him like crazy along with my kids. WE are trully thinking of getting another dog but I dont know if I can handle the shedding because it was HORRIBLE. so when my aunt came down with their golden doodle (no-shedding)(golden retriver/poodle) I got very interested
but the cavapoos are not near as cute, but no to little hair. so what do you think, do you think I can find the cavs temprement and the poodles no shedding?
missing a dog,
lsien

It's very hard to loose a pet. I understand the desire to get another pet. Still, I'm not thrilled iwth the "doodle" craze where people are corssing purebred dogs with poodles and claiming they don't shed, are hypoallergenic, etc.

Now, understand that I do have a breed that sheds, so I really don't understand the need for a dog that doesn't shed. However, what is wrong with a purebred poodle? Basically, a purebred dog has the genetic predisposition to be, act, and shed a certain way. The mixes with a poodle may or may not carry the desired traits you are looking for. Add to it, typically the people who are profiting from these mixes are not doing the gentic health screening required for either breed so you are buying a dog that may shed less but will be predisposed to having more health problems in the long run (eyes, ears, heart, allergies, just to name a few).

I'm sorry- there may be a breed out there that has the temperament you are looking for, but not the shedding. I don't know small dogs very well, but if you go to a dog show and check out the breed rings, you will see what is out there and ask a number of breeders and many questions as you would like.

I know what you are saying regards to the shedding. I have tricolors so black and white clothes are both fuzzy from them. I think the temperment of the cavalier outways the hair issue. I have never been around such a loyal loving breed.
