Mattman...I was pretty happy today

pogo_the_dragon Oct 09, 2003 09:15 PM

Pogo ate 4 crix this morning before I left for work and when I came homeI noticed he ate the other 2 that were still there when I left...Then he ate another 1 when I got home. So that was 7 crix total which even though isn't much is the most he ate in one day so far in almost 1 1/2 weeks...Then I decided I would try a little salad and he proved me wrong when he took 3 big bites of Turnip greens...He didn't touch the green beans or butternut squash but at this point WHO CARES? He really relieved allot of stress for me today!...Let's see if tomorrow is just as good or better!!!

glad your baby is eating and relieving some worry but leaving crix in is not generally a good thing, they can bite beardie and stress him out

Well, that's a start. Good for you and pogo!!! Glad Pogo is starting to eat a bit more then he was. I'm sure in no time you'll be feeding over 20 in the morning, 20 at night and plus a salad. Always a good idea to put the salad in in the morning after the first cricket feeding so while your gone working he has something to munch on, and also the crickets that might be left over eat the greens as well. Somegirl is correct. It is a good idea not to leave many crickets in for long periods. I know you work and would like to leave him food cause he is not eating to much. Put the salad in in the morning after the crickets, and if you choose to leave 1 or 2 crix in for the day just put a piece of green down or some oatmeal for the crix to eat. Just over night make sure no crickets are left in because at night the beardies body stays a bit warmer longer then the ambient temps and the crickets will feed on him (once asleep beardies are like dead wood. they will not know the crix are on him and can't shake them off). I know, I know another thing to worry about, lol. Just make sure the crickets aren't hiding some place you don't see, and coming out at night. Good idea to turn his lights on 1-2 hours after lights out to check if any crickets came out of hiding. Crickets come out when the lights go out, and temps go down. That's good news that he is settling in, you will be feeding lots more crix in the near future I'm sure

Mystical Dragons

Keith, our two younger dragons went from eating maybe 10 or 12 crickets a day, when we first got them, to eating about 50 or 60 each now. And it's only been about 2 1/2 months.

They were around 3 months old then, and less than 10 inches long. Now they're 15 and 16 inches long, and weigh just over 200 grams.

We now go through 1000 crickets a week, just to feed 3 dragons.

So hang in there and don't worry. It won't be long before you're wishing for these "light" eating habits again.
