may have hurt her hine leg?

KathEVP Apr 22, 2006 10:47 PM

Hi i have a 7 month female shiba unu and while she was running around like a girl that she is in the yard she gave she gave out this yapping yelling sound at 1st i thought she had stepped on something like the throny weeds that r in my yard. I have to get out there and clear them away soon. I checked her hind foot and didn't see anything or blood or anything so i think its inside. She seems ok now but when she runs she jumps and then lifts her hine leg then sits. Doe's anyone have a Shiba Unu with this problem? I'm so new at the dog thing i'm a first time at this. Any input PLEASE. Thanks, KathEVP

Put her on restricted activity right now. Leash or crate 100% of the time. No running and no jumping--strict, no exceptions. Continue this until a veterinarian has cleared the dog to return to activity. You might save your dog permanent damage by this precaution, and yourself $1000 or more for a surgery.

Unfortunately, the shiba breed is well known for having orthapedic issues- especially knees. Your puppies problem may be nothing more than a bit of a sprain, or it could be a very severe patella luxation. Only a vet can really diagnose it accurately. I'm sorry Get your poor girl to the vet and I hope some rest an a good message will be the best cure.

>>Kathy Diamond Davis,

Amen to this!

My Sammy hurt his leg, in a very weird accident. Had I done as Kathy says, we wouldn't have had to give him TOTAL HIP REPLACEMENT just this past February. It cost over $5,000.

Good advise.
