Awesome looking dog; What is she?

megan060784 Apr 23, 2006 08:10 PM

I am considering adopting this dog (breed doesn't matter to me) after she is finished being treated for tick fever, but does anyone have an idea of what breeds she is a mix of? I am guessing some shepherd along with maybe a little hound, but I am puzzled by the blue eyes. Any feedback would be appreciated.

Thanks

she almost looks like a thai ridgeback that was bred to something with blue eyes..

I can sort of see the ridge back with the wrinkle forehead and pointy ears.

Could be a Jindo mix but the eyes are puzzling to me as well.

Maybe an Australian Kelpie?
Trying to find out if they can have blue eyes.

Thank you everyone for your great suggestions. She just might be a mix of all of those...who knows. But she resembles all three breeds, I would say. Thanks again,

Megan

Wow, beautiful dog. Look up pharaoh hounds and see what you think. They're tan-colored with prick ears. No blue eyes, though. No idea past that. If her personality is as good as her looks you had better grab her up.

Thanks for the info. Yeah, I am definitely going to adopt her. I have two dogs currently, sisters who are 13 years old. They get along fine with most dogs, but they really seem to like this pup. I tend to be a sucker for animals that need a home, so I couldn't stop thinking about this dog once I saw her and found out she is a shelter dog in need of a home. She is being treated for tick fever right now, so once she is off of those antibiotics (middle of June) then I can adopt her.

In regards to her personality, she is definitely a people-pleaser. She is very affectionate, and seems to pick up tricks like sit and shake very quickly. She runs very fast, similar to a grey hound, but she only sprints then comes back and lies down. I am guessing she is about 4 years old.

Super! If this dog is part pharaoh, or any other sighthound breed, you will definitely be spending a lot of time exercising her!

She is gorgeous...what a great look!
My guess is Basenji and Stradfordshire Terrier or Bull Terrier.

Thanks for the ideas.

Any ideas of names for her? I am trying to come up with something that has to do with her coloring, but I am unsure. Thanks

(my dog Snoopy is in the picture with her; Snoopy is a sweet girl, but hard to please and when she liked this dog I couldn't resist)

Just to clarify, Snoopy is standing in the back, next to her sister (whose backside is all you can see). The dog she is chasing is a little puppy named Sophie that is sometimes at the park.

On the pharaoh hound message board someone said they might name their next pharaoh bitch Lola, like the song. I think it's a very pretty name, and it would suit your girl very nicely. That, or some sort of off-the-wall name no one has ever heard before. With my pharaoh puppy- no "normal" names fit him like we wanted, so we named him Sousa (as in John Phillip Sousa), because my husband and I both like JP Sousa's music. Name her something that means something to you personally, that fits her look and personality. Post when you find one!

I agree.. Matt and I decided to name our pup Kaiser after the character in the movie, "The Usual Suspects", because we're both Kevin Spacey fans We get a lot of "like the bun?" (why no one thinks it's after the German rulers I don't know..), but it's okay The name is meaningful to us and it really suits him. His personality is even much like that of the character in the movie..

My neighbour wants to get a dog and name her Mephistopholes or Agamemnon.. I told him he should keep thinking because I just can't picture myself yelling that across the dog park..

megan060784 May 02, 2006 10:13 AM

Hahaha, very true on the long, weird names. My boyfriend, Dave, said, "pick something short that you can yell easily". So after a night of thinking, I have come up with Ruby. I was actually driving to work yesterday when I thought of something that I think finally fits.

LeahC May 02, 2006 12:13 PM

I think Ruby is a great name for her

abbey_road3012 May 02, 2006 04:23 PM

I like it!

I am not an expert but to me she strongly resembles a Thai Ridgeback Dog.

We have a RR mix, a PH, and an RR. TRDs have interested me as they are smaller then an RR but seem to have some of the traits of both the PH and the RR. It's a breed I have never met in person. Here's a TRD web site for a breeder that my RR references have given good remarks. Take a look and see what you think.

Royal Dog Kennels

Regardless of what she is, she is a very beautiful girl!

Wow.. after looking at that website I have to agree.. Particularly in the colouring and strong shoulders..

wrciii May 02, 2006 03:13 PM

I agree, she most resembles a Thai Ridgeback Dog.

I have read that a symptom of tick fever is "bluish discoloration of the cornea." Could the tick fever be responsible for her blue eye color?

She is awesome!
