Sneezing Star

cod6545 Oct 09, 2003 09:19 PM

Hey- right now, I have 1.1 Indian Star, and 1.0 Cherryhead tortoise. The Cherryhead was infected with URI when I bought him, and now somehow he has passed it onto my male Star. I immediatly quarintined the male Star from my female. Tonight, I noticed that while soaking the female sneezed three times in a period of about ten minutes. I didn't notice a runny nose or any other symptoms of URI. I just saw the sneezing. I'm praying that it isn't another case of URI. Could it be something else? Do they sneeze naturally like humans? Am I just over worrying? I appreciate your replies. Thanks. Brooks

Stars are notorious for developing RNS for no reason at all. Now, the RF is another story. When they develop the runny nose you really need to start looking for what is wrong. Are you in the NE with the heat on already? If it starts getting thick and the breathing laborous... I would think a vet visit would be in order.

I'm here in sunny Melbourne Beach, Florida where it is still perfect! A breeder sold me the Redfoot when it already had RNS. I took him to the vet, and we put him on some kind of shot. After about two weeks, we had little or no improvement. We then had him on eye and nose drops for another week. Yet again, no improvement. He's off all medication now, and I'm taking him back to the vet in about seven days from now. We're going to do a culture on him to find out exactly what's wrong. Thanks. Brooks

P.S. I know it was a long time ago, but it was a pleasure to meet you at the Daytona show. I got to talk to you for a minute after your Egyptian talk. Nice work! Brooks
