The differences between male and female are rather breed-specific. Be sure to talk to breed experts about this in Boxers. One way to reach them is through the national breed club contact person, breeder referral contact person, and rescue contact person for Boxers listed with the breed's information at www.akc.org.

Hi
Be careful to consider your source when you receive opinion on this subject.
Breeders are usually the very worst people to ask because their self interest will more than likely effect their objectivity.
In all breeds where the majority of puppy purchasers want females - the vast majority of breeders will tell you that males are sweeter, gentler better etc....
The reverse is true in those breeds where the majority of purchasers want males. Therefore, read puppy ads from puppy merchants on the internet (don't buy one - just read them). IF the breeders are asking MORE for one gender than the other, than you know which is more in demand and you can be skeptical of breeders who tell you the OTHER gender is better.

As far as deciding which you'd prefer. Let your emotions sway you! Do you want MALENESS or FEMININITY ina pet?
Consider whether you want to neuter or spay your dog.
Spaying is a more invasive procedure (radical hysterectomy) than neutering (castration).

Unlike what most dog lovers will tell you - I believe that secondary sex characteristics are meaningful. Personally, I don't admire castrated males as much as whole males. I like a stallion type personality. But then, in some of the more aggressive breeds I prefer the females to males (Rottweilers, German Shepherds, Pitbulls).

In Boxers I prefer the LOOK of females (males seem '''overdone" to me) and I also find the females more likely to be less trouble with strange dogs (on a walk for instance). But I don't feel an expert on the gender differences in this breed.
