Looking for a breeder to mentor me

elliemay May 03, 2006 04:51 PM

Hello I am 17 years old. I used to breed huskies, but recently I have sold al but 2 of them, I will breed them maybe one more time and then spay and nueter them. My friend breeds huskies and beagles, I have been thinking about breeding beagles and for the past month I have been researching about beagles. It has made me fall in love with the breed even more. If I do decide to breed this wonderful breed, I would want to breed for hunting and companions. I want to field train all of mine, and would lvoe to hunt with them. I own 25 acres and have a few wooded areas, with mostly fields. If anyone would like to tell me about or mentor me about getting a beagle puppy, and how to train them to hunt, please let me know! I have read alot of your messages and you all seem like very reputable breeders. Thank you for your time!

God Bless
Crystal

A good way to start is find a local field trial group and volunteer to help with their events. You'll learn, and when they see you stick with it, you'll find your mentor there.

Thank you. Where would I find that? Is there a website or anything? Would it be through AKC or a different registry.
Thank you

I'd start with AKC, yes, www.akc.org. They even had some photos of a Beagle trial on their site awhile back. Clubs are listed, too. And national breed club contact person, rescue contact person--these are good volunteers to help you find Beaglers in your area.
