Dobe and Camping?

Thai May 05, 2006 11:40 AM

Our boy is gonna be 1 this June. Sometime this summer, we'd like to go on a camping trip and would love to bring him along. My question is, what do I do with him at bedtime? He doesn't sleep with us at home so we'd rather not put him in a tent. Tie him up outside at night?

As I post this, it just came to me... bring his crate! (doh!).

Anyways, what do you guys do?

Thai.

HI!

I camp with 2 greyhounds, but we are lucky to have a camper to sleep in and the dogs sleep in there with us. I would not recommend tying him outside the tent. Depending on where you camp, you could have problems with wild animals. Racoons are almost always a camp problem and some could have rabies. Other animals that could be problems, again...depending where you are camping coule be bears and skunks. None of these would I want my dogs in contact with. If your tent is large enough, I would bring the crate and crate him with you in the tent. This would be the best thing to do. We bought 2 X-pens and put them together for during the day, outside. I'm not a big fan of tying a dog out anywhere, even if I'm with them, but I know alot of people do it with no problems.

Good luck and I hope you enjoy your camping out!

Dogs come into our lives, and too quickly go leaving pawprints on our hearts, and we will never be quite the same again.

My boy jsut sleeps in the tent with us but if he couldn't I'd probally throw him in the car. He is to big of a baby to sleep on the ground!

Depending on where you're camping, I'd be careful leaving him anywhere that isn't either with you or securely locked. There was a rash of dog thefts last year where we were camping at a somewhat "upscale" type of campground. I was thankful that Kaiser was staying with family. Dobes especially would be highly valued.
