Cannot upload

Well here is my problem..I went through the upload proceedure on the photo gallery, but the picture did not show up. Now if I try to upload it again a message comes up that it is already there. If I look up my user name it says I have no photos. I never had any problem Before...The picture is jpg. The Gallery tells me the picture was downloaded successfully...but there is only one of those little boxes with an X in it.
what do I do?
