Dog.. input wanted.

Rouen May 20, 2006 07:46 PM

locally we have a thing called the trading post, a radio for sale/trading market, this morning someone listed a dog and I dunno why but I called and met the guy and got the dog, to my suprise she's like a black slightly smaller Dingo, unspayed and tempermental, being that we have 2 dogs if I keep her it will only be temp. so I need input, should I take her to the humane society where she will likely be PTS due to aggression/fear, or should I hang on o her and try to work with her?
in the 3 hours she has been here she's already setled in a little, I took her and Dingo for a walk and they did fine untill I let them sniff and Dingo was unsure, she was fine, She lunged at me and has shown aggression toward my mom, but she listenes to me now, any input is apprieceated.

Well since you went and got the dog... why not give her a chance. Even if you do decide later to give her up you have the opportunity now to work with her with your own dogs. Any idea how old she is? First thing to do would be to bring her to your vet for an examination and then have her spayed. You might see a bit of change for the good in her behavior after doing so. You haven't had her long enough yet to really evaluate her. I'm sure being in new and unfamiliar surroundings has her a little stressed out. Try keeping her for a couple weeks and see how it goes. Can you post a picture of her?

I've got a roll of film ready to take pics, it'll be a little while till I can get them on CD- maybe a week.
she's 1 yr old, she's still unsure about Dingo, I've been walking them together to get them use to the idea of being a pack, not even a growl while walking, she trusts me more than anyone else in the house, she growls whenever you approach her - I am not sure if it's just a nervous reaction, hopefully when the weather gets better and more people hit the bike trails she'll learn to trust a bit more.
I dont think spaying right now is the best, neutering Dingo when he was unsure made him nervous and fearful, she is nervous already, unless they knock her out while I am with her I doubt it would help, unfortunatly it does appear as though she has been bred already, she will be spayed hopefully by next month, depending on how well she's doing.

they are getting better together, I can have Dingo and Sammy in the same room together on lead without a fight, the problem now is Sammy tries to claim my mom so when she gives affection to Dingo, Sammy gets mad and goes after Dingo.

I walk them side by side, the only time there was ever anything close to a fight outside was the first day I got her and we passed another dog, she in her frustration tried to bite Dingos' ear.

I have found she is very food and treat agressive, not soo much with me but when she has something and my mom is by her she will snap.
she's only ever snapped at me once, and that was when I first met her.
I think the main problem is my mom doesn't do much with either of them but Dingo respects her, Sammy I think sees her as the lowest in the pack and she in her mind is alpha, so she has to tell her pack what to do or they will be bitten.

Sammy has also gotten over most of her fears(bikes, joggers, cars) so I must be doin something right.

I am still working on getting pics. need to finish the roll of film.

I'm glad you're working with this dog. Given her food aggression, you might want to try Nothing in Life is Free, making her work for all food, treats, and other good things. It sounds like she's doing well for the most part!

I didn't get around to developing the film yet but I did trap Tuffins in the bathroom for a few minutes and snapped a few of Sammy with the webcam.
I'll have better pics(I hope) soon.

Thats Sammy girl, doesn't she look a LOT like Dingo?

last night I claimed her food then sat with her while she ate with my hand on her back, she did seem unsure at first but she didn't care once she realised I didnt want her food.
that might have to be a routine till she settles.
