Is my JRT in pup ??

Jackrussell318 May 24, 2006 12:56 PM

Hello, Im new here, We have two JRT of nearly two years old Missy and Holly, we decided to breed them of their second season which unfortunately happened at the same time, we already had a suitable stud JRT ready for when the time came, it has now been over three weeks since we bred them both with the male JRT, How do we know if their in pup, do we just have to wait till they start putting on wait, there was an increase in the amount they where eating it was more then double of usual but now it's slowed down to normal again, so now havent got a clue, has anyone got any advice for us please ???

Regards

Claire and Tony.

perhaps this was something a wise person would have found out before they bred ther dogs. You can have them palpated, but the best way is to have them x-rayed.

I would like to know why you would breed your girls? Are they regestered? Are they to confirmation standard? Have you had the proper health testing done? Right now the breed are fairly healthy, but if people keep breeding for no real reaso, like you, they will not be for long. Have you seen the huge numbers in shelters, pounds and rescues because most people can't handle them? You really should look into breeding before you put your dogs through this.

Do you have 2000 for a c-section if one requires it? Do you know how much breeding a litter costs? I just wish more people would read some books before they decide to breed their dogs because puppies are cute, blahh puke.

A few do not's of dogs:

DO NOT get your dog from a pet shop
DO NOT get a certain breed because a friend had(has) one and it was(is) a great dog
DO NOT breed your bitch becasue she will be a better dog after a litter
DO NOT breed your dog because you just have to have a pup from him
DO NOT breed any animal just to make a quick buck

Just becuse you think you own the best one of your breed, does not make it true, face it we all think that, just some of us know better. So we show and do health and temperment testing on our dogs so we really do KNOW that our dogs have something to add to the gene pools of our respective breeds.

I don't mean to hurt anyones feelings, but these are living breathing feeling beings we are dealing with, as are what we make them produce, many people do no share this feeling and do terrible things to dogs, many of the dogs they get their hands on come from free to good homes situations.

I hope these dogs are not pregnant and you will have the time to research breeding before yuo attempt it again.

If this is your dogs second heat I am guessing they are nowere near two years old which means they have had no health testing.

Shelters are full of JRT who are bred as yours are. You should only breed to better the breed. What does your dog do for the breed?

Since it already may be done the only thing you can really do to tell is go to the vet and have them run some tests. I ahve heard hormone test are worthless since a false pregnancy will alter hormones anyway. X rays have to ahve the pups advanced but they still can hide. Just make sure they are getting enough nutrition adn are on a good food.

WHY? Why would you Breed your dogs, you obvisouly have no idea what you are doing!! are you prepared to have a few JRT pups running around? are you prepared to take the pups back IF it doesn't work out for the new owners or they find out that the JRT isnt' the dog for them. God I hope so. hope you have gotten them to the vet to have them checked. Mushu is one of those dogs that the owner wasn't careful and her bitch got preg and out came Mushu and I belive there where 6 pups in total and only 2 suvived because the owner had NO idea what she was doing!!
