Chi in bed

supafly May 28, 2006 09:41 PM

We just got a little girl chi to keep our little boy company. he is almost 2 and she is about 10 weeks. He sleeps in the bed with us so we want her to as well.
we have had her for about a week now. When we first got her she woke us up at night to go outside, but now she just goes at the end of the bed.
We had some problems like that with our male but he was soon able to hold it.
She seems to be doing it every night and i am just worried that if we continue this way she won't learn to potty outside.
She goes outside pretty well and will hold it for a little while but not at night.
Should we start crating her or just try and wake up in the middle of the night to take her out?

You could put her crate up on the bed with her in it so she can be with the others. If you keep on doing what you're doing, then, well, you're going to keep on getting what you're getting. And the longer it continues, the more set the habit will become. This is a disservice to her, because dogs who are not housebroken have much more limited lives later on and often lose their homes. This is the time to help her through it.

I wonder if she can smell where she's gone before and is marking over it. Did you use a product specifically meant to clean dog urine? I'd probably turn the mattress (after cleaning it with an enzyme cleaner), put new bedding on, and see if it still happens. If it does, I'd recommend crating her.

Yes we clean the sheets regularly and we use a spray thats made for potty training.

I was wondering if maybe we can use one of those diapers for when girls are in heat, that way if she wets herself while its on she won't like it?

That sounds kind of mean but it would only be for at night time.
thats the only time she seems to pee in the house.

The 2 year old "little boy" was another chihuahua and not a human child.
