Chewing!

brokenbody May 30, 2006 12:02 PM

My boyfriend has a 130lbs Rottweiler he just turned a year old.
When i walk into the house he jumps all over me and when i go to site down he bites at my close and chews on them. As well as he likes to "nibble" on my hands and feet. The thing is im the only one he dose it to. Every one else can walk in and he runs to the door and then once they pet him he leves them alown but not me. I have tryed the hole saying that it hurts and pulling my arm away, but it dosn't seem to be working at all. Dose anyone have any ideas?

Thats kinda funny. my inlaws have a dog that when we lived with them would eat my underwear and eat the crotch out of my pants. Now, i know i don't 'smell' or anything like that. He only ate the clean pairs. I'm not big on animal abuse or anything like that but my dogs know when I'm serious. I think if you use a very firm tone with the dog and say 'NO! GO LAY DOWN' or something like that, it'll work. It will take a while, depending on how firm you can be. When we first got our dogs, we had a younger one that wouldnt listen and i found that if i lowered my voice but was still loud, she listened better than me just yelling at her. She also formed a habit of biting when she didnt want to do something- like go OUTSIDE to pee. we ended up chasing her out the door swatting her on the butt. my dogs arent allowed to beg or go charging out the door and rip your bare feet up with thier nails. If they do either of those they get a swat on the nose. I dont think its animal abuse. My dogs very rarely beg and we're getting a lot better with not charging out the door. I think if you just firmly say 'no, go away' maybe stand up when you say it so you're bigger than him. Or if hes a one-owner dog, have your boyfriend shoo him off. You might also try locking him in a bedroom. They usually love to be around people and mine definatly know its a punishment to get locked up.
just my suggestions. I dont personally own a rottie but i came here originally to ask a few questions about them and saw nobody had given you advice yet, so i thought i might tell you what i do with my dogs- 2 german shepherds and a wolf/husky.

Well thank you for your advice. im glad im not the only one who has a problem with dogs trying to eat them, and their cloths. The yelling thing dose work when my boyfriend speaks to him. Another thing is that when me and the dog are by are selves he lisens better to me then he dose to my boyfriend.

another idea i had was to get some really hot hot sauce. and when youre about to sit down put it on your hand, (dont let the dog see you do it) then when he tries to chew on you, he'll get a nasty suprize. my cat used to claw on the bathroom door and i put powdered red pepper along the door where seh was scratching and it gets under her nails and burns. she doesnt do it any more. you might try the pepper with the dog
just another idea.

Beth I realize you are trying to help, but your response is dangerous on so many levels.

First, a dog who has to be chased out the door is a dog out of control. Hitting a dog, ANY DOG, to get it to obey is simply WRONG and dangerous. You do not train a dog, child or other being by hitting it, period. Would I lay a dog out who was ATTACKING ME or someone else? IN A HEARTBEAT. But otherwise, hitting is simply lazy and abusive training. Train SMART.

I really recommend these sites for you and the OP to read. These seem like a lot, but the first has links to help you totally train your dog in all general obedience areas (including not jumping up on you), and the rest will help you train your dog and build a relationship that is safe and healthy:
