What kind of puppy am I?

cfoley3 May 31, 2006 08:56 PM

This is Sasha she is 12wks old and 12lbs. We were told she was boxer/lab, which obviously is very unlikely. Wondering what she might be and how big she might get. She has also already lost 6 baby teeth which makes me doubt her age, although we have a "birthdate."

I'm posting a picture of my boxer/lab mix. Yours is certainly not a boxer/lab. Looks like maybe a GSD or belgian malinois (I'd put my bet on the GSD just because they're more common). Being that small, though, at 12 weeks she'd have to be a cross with some smaller breed, which I have no guess on. Certainly not lab since they're so big.

Looking at the picture again, maybe she's got a little boxer, maybe even one of the "pit bull" breeds. Notice the shape of her head? Not the muzzle, of course, but her head shape could possibly look a bit like a boxer or pit. Having pit bull blood could explain the smaller size. Pit bulls aren't supposed to be huge like so many of them are. I'm not sure as to the ideal weight for an pit bull or American Staffordshire terrier, but I'd guess maybe 40 lbs.

I would be guessing Sasha is a GSD mix though I'm not sure what the other mix(s) would be.

she almost looks akita but she's too small.

does her tail curl?

cfoley3 Jun 01, 2006 01:58 PM

Her tail is curled over her back. I thought akita too, or possibly Basenji or shiba inu, but really I have no idea.

I dont see shiba, her nose is to thick, it will be interesting to see how big she really does get.
keep use posted, and feel free to post pics, I think we all enjoy seeing eachothers dogs.

She has a shiba-like coat, but the face doesn't look like a shiba. If the tail is curled, though, she might have some shiba in her.

Shepherd/boxer mix? I'm horrible with this game though... 100% Cute! Love the black muzzle.

I havent checked what other people posted here so I appologise if I repeat anything....
Many breeds of puppy look similar when they are younger and as their bodies and faces mature you really get to see what they look most like. Its really hard to tell at this age, but As a groomer who sees many different breeds and mixes on a regular/daily basis I would say she has some spitz in her.... probably Akita, maybe husky... she could possibly even have some Shephard in her. Truth be told, at the moment I think it is Akita, but keep posting pics as she gets older and her body matures and it will be easier to tell.
