Hey Everyone, I also posted this on another husky forum and to be lazy I have cross posted it, but I sill want to introduce myself.
I have gone back and forth about whether or not to join a couple Husky forums for awhile now since I don't know whether or not my dog is a pure breed. But I have decided that what the hell; he is such a good friend that a piece of paper doesn't matter and I want to share my stories/photos/etc with other husky owners.
I had been sitting on the fence about whether or not to get a husky puppy (have wanted one since I was a small boy watching Due South) for awhile but had decided that due to cost/time/etc reasons, not to mention being a full time college student, that a puppy was not right for me. Then in early June my gf at the time dragged me to Petco to look at her furry rodent fling of the month. As I walked into the store I noticed they were having a humane society promotion and had a few dogs up there. Low and behold guess what one was........a husky. I went over and played with this 8-12month old puppy for about 10 minutes and realized that I still really wanted a dog and this was one way to get one without having the whole "puppy stage". Since there were a few ppl who had called and showed interest in the dog I had to make my decision fast (since the humane society is first come first serve). I think the following photos will make my decision clear
This is my first pet aside from having newts when I was a small kid (and I really don't count that) and I couldn't be happier. Kodi (Dakota) is my best friend, he is always happy to see me, playful as all hell, loves the attention, doesn't bark 99% of the time, plays well with other dogs/kids, digs the odd hole (arg), and introduces me to new people (specifically girls on walks
he he he).
When I got him home for a few days it became apparent to me that he had been abused as a puppy. He was supper quick to cower at a fast movement, me holding my large Canon camera, a rolled up news paper, etc. It was sad to see such a nice dog be reduced to a shaking ball on the ground at the slamming of a door. Over the past few months he has gotten exponentially better. He will still lower his ears at the loud slamming of doors but he bounces back quickly when he sees that its just my roommates and I. I think that a few more months he will completely forget his past life and no longer cower. Owning Kodi has convinced me that as soon as I am out of college and have settled down in a house I plan on getting another husky, only this time a puppy, so that Kodi has a friend.
I have attached some photos but have more online at www.darkskyproductions.com/kodi
