Pictures, questions, name the breed(s).

Hello,

I have recently (yesturday) become the owner of a new puppy. I was told that he is a Siberian Husky. He was a former foster pup of a lady that works at the Humane Society. Very well-fed little guy.

I am no expert on this breed (or any breed really), so I thought that I would post a picture to see what you think.

I have compared him to pictures online, and can not come to a conclusion. I wonder if he may not be full-breed SiHusky. I say this because his tounge has splotches kind of like a chow perhaps? His eyes are blue and the coat is gray and white.

He is very active when awake, and likes to sleep on the AC floorvent .

The weather has been in the 90s (Degees F) here and I have kept inside except for play and bathroom time. Can they handle high heat?

I have been reading alot online about them, is there any tips that you have?

He sure is a cute little bugger!!! I would say that he is probably mixed with something since his ears do not stand up. If I remember right, pure-bred's ears stand up even when they are puppies.

Just watch him and the heat for a bit. I live in southern Georgia and have 3 huskies. They don't seem to mind it one bit. I actually catch them every now and then sunbathing on the deck in 90 degree weather!! But they tend to prefer the cool, ceramic tile in the house though.

Congratulations on your new baby!!

Thanks for the reply!! Love your pic also, Very pretty/ great eyes.

Yeah I have been getting him outside in the back yard (chain linked)And he will run and run. When we come in it is time for a nap on the floor vent (AC on). Hope to get a leash for walking soon. He gets aound very well.

He cried his first night here for about 30 min. Then the second night, no crying I was very impressed! The house training is coming along with a few mishaps. We both are catching on. He loves to dig so I dont leave him outside alone long, in case of an escape on his part.

I should mention that this is my first puppy. Got any tips for me?

It's normal for them to have floppy ears when they are pups. 2 of my 3 had flopped ears when we got them at 8 weeks. You'll wake up one morning and one ear is up, the next day the other!!

It's also normal for the ears to sometimes flop back down when the pups are teething, if I remember correctly!

Moriah is 5 months old and her ears didnt prick til she was around 3 months old. Just one day...they started pointing up and before ya know it...there they were!

Its just hard to tell right now because flop ears makes them look so different. I know I doubted Moriahs breed but now I am confident she is full bred Husky. Regardless, your pup is sooo beautiful. Enjoy!

Thanks for the reply(s).

I also love the pics that everyone has posted.

I had one guy mention the Nowiegen Elk Hound as a possible option, but I dont think the tail is the same. The NEH's seem to have the upturned bushy tails.

when they are so young it's hard to determin what breed(s) they may be, his eyes look like he's relatively young, maybe 5 weeks old, keep us posted on how he matures.

I will. Probably take pictures every week or so just for comparison.

Whatever he is hes too cute!

My girl is a purebred and has a purple dott on her tongue so it may nto have anyhting to do with the breed.

That's an adorable puppy. Between the ears and head shape it looks to me to be a lab/husky mix. The markings are definitely Siberian. However, the color is something else. It may not be Lab, but it's something husky.

It shouldn't make any difference though, as that is one sweet little baby and will make you happy for many years!

Show us pictures as it grows and we can tell you better. It's real hard to tell when they're so young.

Actually, with your newest pic, I now am confident it's a Chow/Husky mix. The coat, color, and the teddy-bear look (and spotted tongue) is Chow. The markings and some of the shape of the head is Siberian.

I bet it'll be pretty all grown up.

I hope you've taken her to a Vet for a health check, worming, and shots. Ask the Vet about Heartworm preventative. I don't know if they give it to puppies that young or not. Fleas/ticks may also be a concern. Ask the Vet about Frontline for your puppy.

Thanks. That's my favorite pic. Everyone wants to know how she gets up there without tipping the chair. Answer: VERY carefully! lol

She is like a cat.
