I have a 3.5yo boxer lab mix who has been vomiting right after eating for the last month or so. We went to the vet and talked about possible irritible bowel and megaesophagus and we put him on rice and beef. Neither of the diagnoses now seems plausible and he is still vomiting on the rice. (We also have the new puppy but his symptoms were present before we got her and she is perfectly healthy.) He has also been slightly lethargic, his pooping has been sporadic and few,he has been refusing water off and on, and today his face swelled up like a beach ball. (the facial swelling may or may not be related, he has a history of allergic reactions and swelling) Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Oh man, your dog looks just like mine only a different color!! She's a boxer/lab too. About the vomiting- try giving just cooked ground meat for a few days (with a calcium supplement- I think the one I read about was Caltrate, a human calcium supplement, but I could be wrong so check with the vet). See if that helps any. Then add one thing at a time after that. I feed raw to my dogs and one great thing about it is you know everything they're eating. With packaged dog "food" they put so much crap in there you can't just eliminate all but one item.
Another thing, just my personal opinion- go see a holistic vet. My girl has discoid lupus, and the regular vet we went to gave her a prescription for it and that was it. We took her to a holistic vet and he gave us a list of supplements to give her, asked what we were feeding her, was sensitive about our finances (or lack thereof ), and told us what all we could do for her, and in general was just a nice person. He even called me this morning to see how she was doing! Holistic vets go to vet school just like regular vets, only they take their education further and learn all the ways they can help their patients, not just the "conventional" ways. They focus on the whole pet- body, mind, and spirit- not just the body. They treat the problem and not just the symptoms. Sorry to rant, I'm just totally crazy about the vet my girl went to. Try one out, the one we went to was awesome. Also, there's a forum on here called Ask The Holistic Vet. Such a nice thing for those of us who don't have a holistic vet nearby!
