It seems impossible that she has been with us 8 yrs... seems like yesterday I went to the shelter to evaluate a Rottie and saw her. She lowered her head in a very wolfie manner and I knew she was really being submissive but it looked very scary to most. I knew she would be put down... and I couldn't stand it. The vets said about 11 mos old, she had been a feral dog and the shelter had tried to catch her and litter mates for months. They had her almost 4 mos when I got her and with summer and dogs coming in, her time was up. They thought she might be part coyotee so weren't really pushing her adoption.
I needed her like hole in head... had litter of Rottie puppies just placed and had kept a male who was 5 mos old and a handful. I also had the dam, greatdam, and aunt... 4 Rotties and a chow? Then the oldest Rottie died and we ended up rescuing an 11 yr old toy poodle in August. She was afraid of every noise, stood on the coffee table, made noises when upset that would raise the hair on the back of my neck.
Anyway, HAPPY BIRTHDAY Katana. You have given us all so much these last 8 yrs. Your kindness to puppies, your total trust in me (although it took nearly 1 1/2 yrs to really truly have it!), your funny ways of barking at your food in some admonishment ritual that we simply do not understand but love to hear. May we have many more years.
