Hair loss

garrettv Jun 21, 2006 01:32 PM

Hello all chi lovers, my girlfriend and I got our chi 5 months ago and we adore him but only the last 3 weeks he seems to be loseing his hair around his neck. We seem it might be the weather(were in Ireland so its not that hot), he might be itchy or the dog collar.
If you have any advice or answers please reply.

I don't have a Chihuahua, so I'm hoping others chime in, but I think they do tend to shed more as the seasons change--even if it's not terribly hot, and the collar probably does hasten the shedding. My dog tends to shed a lot at the neck when she begins her seasonal sheds.

If hair loss creates any bare spots or red or broken skin, he needs to see a vet quickly.

This is not normal. I would try and get assistance in finding the cause. It could be the collar but it could be something that needs a vet to take a look.
