I looked pretty seriously at the breed, and I think hip dysplasia is pretty common, as well as heart problems. Signs would be favoring one leg over the other or showing signs of pain when the hip area was touched. I know most (good) breeders won't breed any dog before the age of two because at two years I think you can tell pretty much if the dog will end up with problems or not. A hip x-ray shows how the bone fits into where it's supposed to. If you're worried, have and x-ray done.

Because they are not very pain-sensitive, this breed often will not show signs of hip dysplasia until it is very severe, which could be in old age. That doesn't mean it isn't affecting the dog, and putting the temperament at risk. X-ray is the only way to know for sure. If you are going to do highly active things with the dog, x-ray is important so you will know the dog's hip status and be able to manage it sensibly.
The best surgical repair for hip dysplasia can only be done prior to the development of any arthritis, which makes it a good idea to x-ray young. One time to consider it is at the time of spay/neuter surgery. And for a definitive hip rating, age 2 years.
