Searching for Saluki

ps Jun 24, 2006 02:32 PM

I have recently become extremely interested in the Saluki but am having a difficult time finding breeders.
At the moment I have a great dane/pitbull mix and a Jack russel/sheltie mix - both are rescues
Dane x - got him from a woman who kept him locked in a crate 20 hours a day for 2 years: not house broken, leash trained, or any other basic manars. Took me close to 2 years to turn him into a respectable member of society

Jack x - her mother was found running pregnant in the streets by our local shelter and gave birth to 8 healthy pups. My baby was one of only 2 females.

My dane mix is 6 and unfortunately Danes as a breed generally live 7-10 years. While Boomer is currently in excellent health I know the day will come within the next 5 years that I will have to say goodbye to my good friend and I would like to have a breeder lined up so Jada my jack doesnt end up being alone for too long. I would like to find out as much about this breed as possible and find a good breeder I can talk to. If anyone has any info I'd greatly appreciate it.

You'll find the national breed club link as well as a rescue link for each breed, including the Saluki, at www.akc.org. Most clubs have a public education officer, too. And each club has a breeder referral contact person.
