Hi everyone!

rudeguy Jul 07, 2006 04:34 PM

I am new here, and a new JR owner. I just picked up a 16 week old pup a couple days ago.

Everything is going very well, except the crate training. I can't get him to actually go inside the crate yet. I have tried tossing treats and toys in there, putting his bed in there...everything short of stuffing him in. Any help would be appreciated.

One other thing. I picked out the calmest lil guy who still showed some personality. All he does is sleep though. He will play fetch for a few minutes and then give up. He does love his walks though. But indoors he is pretty much content just laying around and napping. Will he get more hyper or is this just how he is?

TIA

Welcome,
And good luck, While Crate Training my JRT it was pretty difficult he didn't like to go in it still doesn't lol. But we came to an understanding that if I want him in there all I have to do is lead him over to it and kinda nudge him and he will go in. he's 2 1/2 so still very much a puppy.
16 weeks is still very much in that reserve my energy phase, Hyper is still to come if you did get one of the rare ones that are calm I envy you!!Remember that as he is a terrier you will need to provide him with some type of Job, he was bred to hunt, and will possiblly dig. sometimes out of bordem but it's also one of the breeds cartieristics. Mushu is constanly bouncing off the walls when he sleeps I can just see the energy building up!!

Hi TIA,
I don't know much about the Jack Russell Terrier but would just like to welcome you to the board. Pull up a crate and make yourself at home. We also love pictures. I'm not sure why your picture didn't show but perhaps you can try again.

I thought the Jack Russell was a rather active dog too. Perhaps you just got a very calm one. Hopefully, some of the Jack Russell folks will have some ideas for you.
