10 Month old Female Doxy - genitals.. ??

calgecko Jul 08, 2006 11:54 PM

OK.. this seems like a realllly weird question.. and I don't exactly know how to ask it but to be really blunt.

Our (approx) 10 month old female Dachshund/Chihuahua mix puppy has recently developed some more teats on her ribcage, and the teats on her belly have become more pronounced.. (she is fixed).. now, we're noticing that the, um.. "cone" of her genitals seems to be more enlarged than it was just a few days ago.. she's been cleaning her "crotch" quite frequently lately .. perhaps this is "growing pains"? Is this common?

My wife and I are new to the whole "dog thing"... we've both had cats for years .. but this is our first puppy.. we've had her for about 4 months.

Thanks for any insight.

Infection is a strong possibility. After the veterinarian checks her, you might try what I do for my spayed females. It's just a simple daily cleansing with apple cidar vinegar on paper towel or tissue.

Hi! Collect a urine sample for you Girl first thing in the morning and take it to your Vet for a urinalysis. She could have a urinary tract infection ( UTI ) or crystals of various forms. One caution ... never let your Vet give your Dachsie Cephadroxyl 100. I gave some to my Mini when she had a UTI and it gave her brain damage so bad that she was ataxic ( staggering around ) and we had to put her to sleep! One of the worse times of my life! The urine sample will be good for 4 or 5 hours sitting around if you can't get it to your vet right away. Never refrigerate it, as it can change the properties of the sample. Hope this helps. )
