Corn Snake Behavior

machinegun Oct 09, 2003 11:04 PM

Are corn snakes primarily nocturnal? The only time I have seen my corn snake out and about is at night in darkness aided my flashlight with a red filter on it. Could the cause of this nocturnal behavior be the bright basking lamp that I use for a heat source during the daytime hours? I’ve feed him last evening and haven seen hide or hair of him since the feeding. Also I have had him for less then a week. Any information would be appreciated.

Thanks

I am still new at the whole snake thing...I've had mine for about a week now. However, he did seem to need a settling-in time of 4-5 days before he began to sometimes explore the tank at night. Make sure you don't handle him for a minimum of 3 days, so he doesn't get too stressed.

I believe snakes are mostly nocturnal; that's why they don't need the extra UV light.
