I was wondering what everyone here used to control parasites on/in their dogs. I've used revolution since I got my 1yo min pin because I like that it controls a variety of pests but I want to make sure I'm using the best.
Any reviews or input??

I don't want to use anything unnecessarily, and my dogs go sometimes 2 years at a time without being exposed to fleas or ticks. So I use Advantage or Advantix for those pests, only when I'm taking a dog where there will be exposure, and then of course each application lasts a month.
I use Interceptor for Heartworm and other worm control. It's a very safe drug.
No way would I use Revolution, especially on a tiny dog.

Can I ask why you wouldn't use revolution? I use the one for toy sized dogs.
I take my dog to the dog park every week and also to the groomer frequently so i try to keep her on revolution, especially since in Florida fleas can be a year round problem.

I prefer to split the products I use on my dogs up. All-in-one products have a bad record for causing bad side effects. Dog medications are not very tested. As I said, I do not need flea and tick control all the time, so I use it when I need it, not every month. I use Interceptor for heartworm and other worm control, and it is an extremely safe drug with a lot of years of use in the dog population behind it. I don't use any more than my dogs actually need, of anything. The rate of cancer and autoimmune diseases in dogs is extremely high, and much of the reason for that is all the stuff we use on and in them. If you're happy with Revolution, it may be great for your situation. I just, for my own dogs, use the minimum "stuff" that will take care of their needs.

For Heartworm, I use 1/5 dose of Interceptor (Safeheart dose) which takes care of heartworm, not other worms.
For ticks, I use Frontline, and it also takes care of the occasional flea that my dogs pick up from gopher holes, etc.
I have also heard of more failures, in general, with Revolution than with other products, but haven't seen any hard statistics. I only know that it didn't work well for the ticks in our area.
I use a garlic supplement in my dogs' food. I don't use any chemical products on them. I feed them raw food and I keep them inside most of the time. Neither of them have had a single bug on them while they've been with me.

I don't feed my dog raw food but I could mix that in with her kibble.
Do you think that'd be enough for her????
I take her to the dog park weekly, but I don't want to use a chemical if I don't have to.
Hopefully you're feeding good kibble, but it can definitely be mixed in. I mix my raw food with Innova Evo because right now I can't feed bones. It's good stuff. My dogs go for walks where lots and lots of other dogs go (they don't actually have direct contact since my older dog is pretty aggressive), they go in the yard, and I'm not at all worried about them getting fleas or any other parasite. One thing, though, if you do end up going with a chemical product, use Advantage. My dog's vet said it's the only one that isn't absorbed into the blood. Hopefully it won't come to that, though! My old dog isn't even on garlic right now, and no problem even then. Healthy dogs just don't taste as good to bugs.

Many people know that onions are unsafe for dogs, but don't realize that garlic is also unsafe for them. The symptoms are not obvious, and the problem is anemia. I suppose it's possible it helps with fleas and ticks by reducing the red blood cells so that the pests don't get a good meal. But an anemic dog is not healthy. So garlic is now on the caution list.

A stomach bug got into both my dogs a couple of months ago, and both were tested for anemia (among other things). They've both been on garlic supplements for several months, and the test came back normal.
