Getting Along

Rob_Sleeper Jul 21, 2006 10:35 PM

Hi everyone,

I went to the vet with my male doberman and a lady walked in with her huge english mastiff and I just about died and had to go over to the owner and pet her mastiff. I became so in love the breed. But dobermans will always be my deep passion. My doberman sniffed the mastiff and came back to me kind of like WOW that is a big dog. Keep in mind that I am still doing tons of research before i make the desision of buying a mastiff puppy. So my question is how well do your mastiffs get a long with other breeds on a daily basis?

Thank you so much

Hi!

If your looking to get a Mastiff puppy you would want to properly socialize him or he won't do well with your Dobe. A well socialized Mastiff will get along well with other dogs otherwise it would just lead to problems. Good Luck!

Dobes have a much better chance of getting along with dogs of opposite sex than dogs of same sex in the home--which is true of many if not even most breeds. So one thing to do to help this is to make sure your Mastiff is opposite sex from your Dobe.

Not all mastiffs get along with other dogs, specially of the same sex. Generally if you get a puppy of the opposite sex of your older dog things will work out, but do be prepared that even that is not a guarentee.
