behavior after kennel stay

harley1006 Jul 29, 2006 09:21 PM

i have a 10 month old named harley that after a 5 day kennel stay has been lethargic and tired. No playing barking or even eating much for the last few days. we have had her for a couple months and she has been healthy untill now. She has a slight fever and dry nose. Any ideas on whats going on would be appreciated. thanks

I would take her to the veterinarian right away--emergency vet if necessary. I would not wait. There are contagious diseases dogs can get in kennels, some very serious. She sounds pretty sick, and after 5 days in a kennel she is not at her best to fight it off without good care.

I second that- go to the vet right away.

thank you for the replies. since last night her health has seemed to improved. her fever broke and she has eaten a normal meal. she was even scratching on the door this morning to go on a walk. i did make a vet appointment but one question. do u think that if they feed her a different food at the kennel, that this could have caused her symptoms?
thanks again

Ooh, good thinking. That may have been it if your dog has an allergy or something, or if they fed a lower-quality food than you feed. I'm sure it was stressful, too, being away from you all that time. Keep your vet appointment anyway. You never know what your dog could have gotten from another dog.

It doesn't sound like you took her temperature. A fever would not be caused by a food change. But you would need more information to know just what did happen to your dog. Another reason to take her to a vet promptly would be that it's the only way to determine if the kennel's handling of her did cause the problem.
