What breeds are hukies compatible with?

Plaguerizm Jul 30, 2006 11:04 AM

We currently have a female husky, just a little past a year old and spayed. She is very affectionate and friendly, but we think that she is not getting enough socialization, dog-wise. Recently, a family friend dropped off her chocolate lab at our house for a few days and our husky and the lab got along wonderfully and they definitely had tons of fun together. This has prompted us to consider perhaps getting another dog.

Our dog is very active, and loves to play. So the breed needs to be active and playful as well. We would like a dog that is not so small that our husky might accidentally hurt while playing, yet also not too big. I think a dog that is a little smaller than our husky would be a good idea. Also, we have two cats, so we really can't have a hunting breed. Time and space is definitely not an issue, since we have a pretty big backyard and we are very devoted to our pets. So, basically a dog that is somewhere around 30-45lbs, playful, and with good temperment. If anyone has any suggestions based on everything that I have said, I would love to hear them!

Oh, and here's a picture of our little beauty:

I'm curious, why not another siberian? Then if you wanted you could do recreational sledding, and other sports with your dogs. If you go to Sled dog central you can find a mentor in your area that will help you out, and teach you everything you need to know, The mentors in our area share all of their equipment. Otherwise I might suggest an American eskimo, if you want a slightly smaller dog.

Well, that is actually one of the options that we're considering right now. But we're just not sure if two hyper huskies will be a bit troublesome to handle. Your sledding idea actually sounds like a lot of fun!

We have 3 right now, and they are great together, nothing knocks a husky out like another husky, ours always seem to be sleeping, we have a 1 acre play area fenced in for them, so in the morning we just open the door, and off they go. Here they are:

Wow, they're very beautiful! Thanks for the advice. We have been considering getting another husky, and that was basically the only concern we had.

I have a husky and a golden retriever and they are great together they have tons of fun, Sam the retriever is a pretty big boy as are most retrievers, but if you want a fun dog with a great temperament then they are the ones to have!!

The reason we want a dog smaller or of the same size as our husky is that when we had the chocolate lab over at our house(he was a pretty big, slightly overweight dog), our cats wouldn't even come home. So for the sake of our cats, a larger dog is out of the question.

If the other dog is a male and fairly sane when it comes to other dogs in general, a female Siberian Husky would probably accept him. Many female dogs of other breeds would insist on fighting with HER, so the safest choice is opposite sex--both fixed.

Nothing is better for a husky than another husky Once you have two you will not go back lol they are so fun together. They wrestle and act like fools, muhc better than one. A fixed male would be best, my female hates other females (unless they are puppies) but loves males. You should be able to find a nice husky or husky mix in rescue.
