Help with my husky

acgoring Jul 31, 2006 05:52 AM

I have a couple of questions about my 2.5 month old husky.

First of all, he is biting/chewing everything BESIDES his food, which is a Pedigree puppy food. It has little bones, which he sometimes chews, but the smaller, lentil shaped pieces, he just swallows... usually his droppings are not solid.

Also, please have a look at my photo of him... is he a Siberian or Alaskan?? The reason I don't know is I live in Taiwan, and don't speak Chinese yet... his pure breed papers are on the way.

Thank you very much!!!!

Hey.. awww his a cutie looks like an Alaskan Mal to me, but his still so young so its to early to tell.

I think he is gorgeous, and he does not look like a malamute at all, he is siberian husky all the way. Mals do not typically have blue eyes.I would change his food if I were you, pedigree isn't really all that good, also get him a kong, and maybe a rope toy, also a few plush toys, as he is probably teething, and needs to chew. I've had siberians for 25 yrs now, and they all do fine as long as they have a good selection of toys, I have never had a dog of mine destroy any of my possesions. Good luck!!

Thanks...

What is a kong?? I keep reading about them.
What kind of food is better?

thanks very much!

Hi there, your puppy is so adorable. I agree with Olympia, it definately looks like a siberian husky to me. Im not really sure what dog food is best, the breeder i am getting my puppy off uses supercoat so i was going to give that a go and see how that is.

A kong is a hard rubber toy with a hole in it so you can stuff food in it to keep the puppy busy, I would get a puppy size one, and the next size up for now, they sell them at all pet stores, or you can google Kong toys, and order them. I feed my Siberians Premium edge dog food. They all do really well on it.

I've had great luck with Pro Plan, if you can get it there.

Awww! He's adorable!

My husky never really chewed her food when she was little, either. She much prefered swallowing everything whole.

Yeah, "wolfing" their food is perfectly normal and healthy. It's what they do in the wild. You don't waste precious time at a kill by chewing. It makes you vulnerable to predators and limits what you might possibly get off the carcass due to competitors.

Siberian... beautiful dog.

Sibes have touchy digestive systems. If you're changing his food often or augmenting with human food/treats, you will get loose stools. Otherwise, it could be he's sick and needs to see a Veterinarian.

Best is a high quality dry kibble formulated for a puppy. Whatever you want to stick with, don't change brands. You can change flavors, just not brands.

Good luck and keep in touch! (more pics!)

I guess everyone has answered you questions about the food so maybe I can help with the pure breed stuff. I got my Chani in Taiwan too, hopefully you didnt make the same mistake as I did and get suckered. KCT is the only certificate internationally recognized in Taiwan but fake certificates can be bought or forged really easily so be careful. I got a TDLA certificate(Taiwanese dog lovers association) and I'm positive it's fake because they sent me two on accident and they are different. If you really want to make sure about your dog's pedigree you can contact the KCT main office and they provide genetic testing for 1000NT but they wont give you a certificate. Can I ask where in Taiwan you got your dog?

Chani,
Just got your message………
I got my dog in Tainan at Lion Chuan Feng, a small petshop. The owners seem to be fairly straight, however, we've been waiting for our certificate for about 2 months now... Ahhhh, Taiwan.
