Dobie male and pup dobie x weimaraner

k3esy Aug 08, 2006 10:59 AM

Hi i have a 19 month old dobie male called charlie, hes the best dog ive ever had and we decided to get him a friend as he loves other dogs ( which gets him in trouble some times), so we brought a 8 week old female dobie cross weimaraner , they play nice but some times she snaps at his face and shows her teeth and growls( my husband calls her a rapter) if she dose catch him with her teeth he gives her a warning and they leave it for about a minute and start again , my husband says shes vicious ,should i stop her from doing it or let them sort it out themselves. Charlie has never shown his teeth to any dog before ( even when he was attacked by a staffy), but the other day after she caught his ear he growled at her and showed his teeth , i myself am not that worried as shes only 10 weeks old, but my husbands panicing that shes going to turn vicious or turn Charlie vicious

I'd let the dogs deal with it on their own. They are opposite genders and she's incredibly young and testing issues. Dog language is complex. Humans can only slightly interpret the intentions behind what actually is going on. As long as nither dog appears scared or terrorized, then let them be. They'll work it out. Allow them time away from each other at times though. No one needs a pesky puppy nibbling on them 24/7.
