The eyes

DarkDTSHD Aug 12, 2006 09:05 AM

Hello,

Why are some Husky's eyes blue and some black. Are they two different types? I was told by one breeder in BC (Canada) that hers (with blue eyes) "...are the true artic siberian huskies". Are most huskies with blue eyes? I've seen a lot with black eyes

Thanks.

The breeder you talked to is wrong. Siberian huskies can have various eye colors, Blue is the most recognized, because most people want a puppy with blue eyes. The eye colors can be: Blue, amber, brown, Parti colored {that's with 2 colors in one eye}, and bi eyed {when the dog has 2 different colored eyes. I've had siberians for 25 yrs, and I have had Blue eyed, brown eyed, amber eyed, and parti eyed dogs.

What I said was that she told me that "only true artic huskies" have blue eyes. Not that there aren't other huskies with other eye color variations. Don't know if she was refering to a specific type of husky or huskies in general.

As for blue eyed huskies being the most recognized. That's news to me because I have to admit that the of all the sites I've visited the majority have brown or black eyed Huskies. Maybe I just happen to be looking at the "odd" breeder websites.

Any how, glad to know blue eyed Huskies are not rare. So should I choose to go with a Husky I shouldn't have too much problems finding one with beautiful sky blue eyes.

Thanks for your input!

I guess you didn't understand me, I meant that blue eye's are mostly recognized by people who either want a husky, or don't know much about the breed, as for black eyes, in all my years I've never seen the actual eye color black thats an odd breed website you are looking at. LOL! As for getting a siberian husky with blue eyes, I wouldn't get a dog based on eye color, and the breeder who told you that only true artic huskies have blue eyes is wrong.

We chose Nikki because of her personality as a puppy. We constantly get comments on her eyes. Most people think it's pretty cool. Most ask "is that normal"? because they've never seen one...

I have one with blue and one with brown eyes. People always comment on the blue eyes Some people really like it but it frightens alot of people too. We have three 5 week old pups, two have blue eyes and one has one blue eye and one parti (part blue part brown).
