Identify my mixed dog breed?

Sweet1plum2000 Sep 11, 2006 09:32 AM

Hi, My dog is part German Shepherd, and part ?? He has the black markings in his face like a German Shepherd. The rest of his entire coat is RED with no black markings anywhere. He is short haired, and weighs as an adult dog 60 pounds. The weight is a little less then a full German Shepherd. Here is a photo of Rusty:

Thanks for any help. He is smart, loves to retreive (part retreiver??) and protective. Loyal..understands English

Could someone help me identify the other breeds that might be part of him?

Here are some photos of Rusty.

Here is another photo of Rusty. He loves cats too and nibbles on their heads until the hair is spiked.

I'm absolutely horrible with the "guess the mix" thing. There are just far too many possibilities for me. I see the GSD. The coat color, texture and tail look like that of a shiba inu in the picture. It would be an odd mix, but may give you the smaller since since shibas are ~25 lbs.

does his tail curl over his back?

Sweet1plum2000 Sep 15, 2006 06:07 PM

No it does not, but he may have some chow in him. His tongue is not blue like a chow. Someone thought Aussie Cattle Dog and German Shepherd.

He could have a small amount of chow just for the color, but his coat is so smooth and so much like a german shephard...except solid red like an Irish Setter

I'd say malinois/GSD.
he's very much got a GSD tail.

Just curious what the curled tail might mean? I am in process of adopting a dog similar to Rusty except his ears are mostly down altho sometimes pricked. He has black paw pads/blk around mouth and black eyeliner. Tan/beige coloring/short coat and yes, tail curls over. He is 9mo and weighs approx 49lbs. Thanks for any help

I'm not to good at this either but I'm not so sure there is a mix. Rusty may be a Golden Shepherd... if so they are kind of rare. I would try posting on the GSD board if you haven't already or even try Google Images and do an image search on Golden Shepherds for a comparison.
