Harness for dog with sore neck?

burunx Sep 12, 2006 02:47 PM

Hello,

My dog had a pinched nerve this past weekend and i no longer want to use her collar to attach her leash (even though she rarley pulls). Any suggestions for a good harness that does not pull at all from the neck area? We used a sporn harness when she was young, but it still sems to pull a bit of the neck from underneath.

Adjustable tracking harness from Nordkyn Outfitters. This is a non restrictive harness. I often use it with dogs of mine who are ill and need help walking. I used it that way today with a dog coming home from general anesthesia.

For my dogs I use the plain old harnesses like from Aspen. Petco and Petsmart both sell them. They don't touch the neck at all. Our beagle used to have a choke chain used on her, and I don't like having any pressure on her neck after that, and these harnesses work just fine without pressure on the neck.

I really ought to stop getting more rodents every time I go out, huh?

Both of my dogs have neck issues. These are my experiences...

Front clip harnesses are bette then collars, but they turn the shoulders which affect the neck.

Any harness that has a web between the neck and the body rings (like the typical harness you find in pet stores) has the potential to cut under the armpits. I found that these caused alot of shoulder pain in my dogs (one is a lunger, the other only rarely), and thus affected their necks.

I was looking for a harness that looked like a front clip, but clipped in the back, and someone suggested the walking harness that I linked below. I absolutely love it.
