Flies eating ears!

leepr Sep 17, 2006 12:54 PM

Not as horrific as the title suggests, but we have two sibes in our yard. The past couple of weeks has really brough out the flies - there are hundreds all over the yard. Anyway, our boy has a scrape/bite on his ear that the flies are pretty much sticking too. We clean is numerous times each day, but the flies keep coming back. We even tried some bandages over his ear - that was pretty funny. Anyway, I understand that there's some sort off goo you can buy to rub into their ear/fur that will deter the flies. Anyone know what it is, or where I can get it?

Thanks.

It's sold for horses. Your vet can help, or you might check a horse supply company.

I think you may be talking about,Farnam Swat Clear Ointment,it protects wounds from flies, you can find it at Dover saddlery online.

I know I'm late responding but I had a similar problem many years ago. I picked up Bag Balm to put on an open sore on a beagle. It kept bugs out and helped the wound heal. I've used it occasionally on one of my Huskies as well for her ear tips and it helped alot.
