To much water

JaimeMarie Sep 26, 2006 07:43 PM

Sunday morning Mya had a loose BM, and also vomited. After that she was her normal self. I figured it was from getting into the trash the day before. Since than she has been drinking a TON of water.
A lot more than normal. She also peed on the floor Monday. She hasn't had an accident in the house since she was a puppy. (She turned 8 yrs old in August).
My bf thinks it might be a sign of diabetes. I am going to try and find a vet and get her in as soon as possible (I just relocated).
Any one have any ideas until than?

Give her as much water as she wants. Water is *very* good for the body. My older girl Lucy drinks an absolute ton of water, even though she eats homemade food with lots of moisture. I have to refill their water bowl three or more times a day. It's certainly not going to hurt her. Give her more time outside to prevent accidents. More trips, I mean. My girls go either in the yard or in the garage probably 8 or so times throughout the day. Let her drink, and let her outside. If she's been that good with her housetraining, she must have really had to go. A lot of that (having to hold it too long) will have a bad effect on... I think it's the kidneys. Let her drink all she wants, and let her out any time she needs to go.

home of old lady Lucy (boxer/lab/garbage disposal), pretty girl Fancy (beagle), the rats- Chopin, Tchaikovsky, Pachebel, Fillmore, and Norbert, and the mice- Vivaldi, Brahms, Schubert, Bartok, Rasputin, Chaminade, Rosa, Dorothy, Glenda, and Em... I really ought to stop getting more rodents every time I go out, huh?

Various things can cause drinking a lot of water, including kidney failure, liver failure and fever. It's important to see the vet. Make sure she has constant access to water and frequent potty outings. With most conditions that could cause this, the extra water is protective to the body. Only in uncommon situations under veterinary guidance should you ever limit water.
