Vaccine Law?

abbey_road3012 Sep 27, 2006 09:12 AM

Is anyone aware of any law in Illinois that makes it illegal to perform surgery on a dog who isn't "current" on all vaccines? That's what the girl at the vet's office told me this morning when I dropped my girl Lucy off this morning to have some broken teeth removed. I think it's bull. Otherwise if the vet won't do it I'll have to go pick her up and get her in with a different vet. My stomach is turning just thinking about how easy it'd be for them to "not look" at her paperwork and shoot her full of all those stupid things... ugh!! If anyone knows of something like this please let me know. I should get a call back in maybe an hour or less from the vet, and if it turns out they're lying to me I'm going to be reeeeeally upset. Thanks for any help.

I really ought to stop getting more rodents every time I go out, huh?

I think that they are lying. The only vaccine required is rabies, so they may be required to give that, but that's the only one, asaik

I've told my share of lies too....last specialist I took my dog to I told them he was current....it wasn't worth the bother to get into another argument.

I think next time I am forced to go to a non-holistic vet I might just do the same.
I really wonder what on earth these vets are thinking as they inject that 580-in-one vaccine into an animal. Surely they don't actually think it's best??

LOL, the sad part, is that some of them probably do think that, or they probably just aren't thinking at all.

Sigh.

Yeah, there's a thought. They don't even think about it anymore.
And they're so used to uninformed clients bringing their pets in and letting the vet do whatever. I took my old girl Lucy to a conventional vet (silly me, I know!), and when he asked about her nose I said it was discoid lupus and that we've been treating it since she came to live with us. He actually started explaining the disease to me- then he actually gave me an INFORMATION SHEET!! Seriously, are most people so in the dark about what is wrong with their animals? The day I found out that's what Lucy had I was on the computer learning all about it. That vet did not ask me how much I knew about it or how we were treating it (we were there for another issue), just threw all he knew at me assuming I didn't know. He even got her and EFA supplement, label and all, and seemed almost shocked that Lucy already takes EFAs. That was my final lesson... no more conventional vets for us unless it's an emergency. What a rant!

she probably said "illegal" cuz its easier to say then explain that its the vets policy... we requier rabies (law, duh) and bordetella vax (its for kennle cough) we do that cuz 2 years ago our kennles had a huge outbreak of kennle cough and all the owners got pissy and expected to be treated for free...we have lab quality ventalation far above any other hospital ive worked at, but crap happens. if you took your dog to a vet and it crossed paths with a parvo positive dog and came down with it would you balme the vet? i dont know, but most people would, they require vax to protect themselfs, in the sue happy USA its what they have to do.

and as far as people being clueless about their pets, yes that are. i could tell stories for days, like "how can my dog be in heat, its winter" & one i get everyday "her ears are just dirty, she cant have an ear infection" meanwhile im smelling the foul smell and see red bleading ears with puss draining out

trust me, vets know overvaccinating is bad, but untill people get smarter they will have to protect themselfs fom the few, the dumb, they people who shouldent have pets...
