Jogging with my Shepherd...

Kaseys412 Sep 28, 2006 10:05 AM

Ok I am getting my new baby german shepherd girl in a few weeks.. I run in the morning and am going to take it down to a walk when I get her for obvious reasons. I was wondering... for a 9 week old pup... what should I limit this walk to? I don't want to overdo it with her.. and also, at what age would it be appropriate to start jogging with her? I know it isn't good for their little bones and they can't be running companions when they are young, but what age is it ok for her?? Thanks all... Kasey

Serious jogging probably not before about 2 years of age. Walks at first need to be about pleasant training, not about getting anywhere. My first few with a new dog are just on the driveway. A long block maybe for awhile. Walking a dog on a leash is basically "forced exercise," a puppy should have pretty much zero of that.
