HELP, dog chewing on walls

Duze Sep 29, 2006 11:19 AM

My 11 month old Jack Russell, is a delight to have, and has always been a big time chewer. However, recently she has taken to chewing directly on our walls, or chewing on the door frames throughout the house!!!! This is a totally new development for her. We have LOTS of chew toys all around the house that she regularly chews on, along with a Kong that she chews, but even with all these toys on the floor to chose from she will leave them and go chew on the wall.

Anyone ever experienced this or have any ideas on how to stop it?

It's a common behavior in young dogs. You'll need to protect the areas she is chewing or else confine her away from them. If you interrupt the habit now, it may well fade as she matures. If you allow it to continue, though, it can become a lifelong habit. Don't use punishment. That doesn't work, and causes new problems.
