Is Monty Regurgitating?

rubixcube2k3 Oct 10, 2003 12:28 AM

Hey, it's me again! I'm back, and proud to announce that I'm now the owner of 2 Ball Python Males(both normal as far as I can tell). The newbie goes by the name of Lucky, and is a brilliant browinsh-yellow. However, this post is about my older snake, Monty. I've got two specific questions:

1)I fed him yesterday (a single larger rat, since the pet store was out of white mice.) He had no trouble killing and swallowing it, but when I woke up this morning, there were a few surprises in the tank for me. One brown pile of something and a few yellow smaller bricks. I recognized the yellow stuff, but the brown pile I wasn't sure of. It was about the size of a half dollar and very flat...hard with no smell. Is that regurgitation? I'm not used to him digesting food that quickly but maybe it's a possibility. I'm just curious to know because I want him to remain as healthy as possible.

2.)Monty, on the top of his head, about 1/3 of and inch from the tip of his snout, has a dark ,dry looking spot. I'm not sure how long it's been there, nor if it was there when I got him, but after examining Lucky, I've determined the at it probably isn't normal. Is it possible that it's a burn or something? I can't see any flesh ,but it does look like the remaining skin from his last shed (the humidity in his tank was too low) is having a little bit of difficulty coming off, especially in this area. Can anyone offer any advice and any insight to these two situations? Thanks in advance for all of your concern and help!
Abe

Sounds like he just ran over his turd a few times.

If you have an animal that regurges, you will know by the funk that will fill your house!

If he fed last night, swallowed and regurged, it would not be flat. It would be wet or look wet and still very much resemble a rat. I have found that after a meal, many snakes will defecate - FIFO First In First Out

It's hard to say about the skin condition without more information. If it's an old scar, time may fix it. If it's some form of dermatitis, you may be able to treat it. Most likely, a vet will need to determine this. If he has had this for quite a while, then I would day it's not critical.
